Black Fire Works - Nobody Enjoyed The Party (CD)
Black Fire Works was created in 1999 when Mickey Acorn met British underground DJ Simon “Smagik” Magik. Smagik introduced Acorn to Julia May and Arthur Michaels who had an electronic noise band called Dancing Scientists. The 4 of them decided to collaborate on one song every year. 14 years later we are left with the album “Nobody Enjoyed the Party”. Black Fire Works uses an assortment of drum machine and lo-fi sampling mixed with vocals and dialog created by Acorn to seem like samples. Instrumentals sound like video game scores for your own life. It’s hard to say which is of 4 members is more prevalent, but it’s safe to say that Acorn and Smagik were definitely steering the boat on most of the tracks, with the final track being completely Acorn. There are no plans for any future albums, as Julia May passed away in 2017, and Arthur Michaels has been studying cognitive science at UCSD. But rumors of Acorn and Smagik resurrecting the unit have surfaced after a cryptic messages purportedly from Simon Magik said “There will be another party.”
Handmade in the DIY dungeon of Sen City, this CD-R was made with love just for you. It comes in a plain black envelope to mirror the darkness of its creation.
